A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has formally left the African Democratic Congress (ADC), attributing his decision to changes in the nation’s political landscape.
He confirmed his departure in a resignation letter dated May 1, 2026, and addressed to the ADC chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area. In the letter, he stated that his exit from the party takes effect immediately.
Gwarzo explained that the decision came after extensive reflection and discussions with his political allies, supporters, and other stakeholders across Kano State and beyond. He said evolving political realities played a major role in his choice to step away from the party.
He noted that recent shifts in the political environment made it necessary for him to review his membership and reassess his political direction. According to him, his concern remains the welfare of the people and the broader future of both Kano State and Nigeria.
He added that the current political changes influenced his decision to align himself with a path that better reflects his values and expectations for governance. Gwarzo stressed that his move was guided by principles he considers essential for leadership.
He further stated that his political philosophy is centered on effective governance, democratic ideals, and long-term development, and that his resignation was part of his effort to remain consistent with those beliefs.
In the letter, Gwarzo also expressed appreciation to the ADC leadership and its members. He thanked them for their cooperation, respect, and encouragement throughout his time in the party, describing his experience as positive.
He clarified that his departure should not be seen as hostile or confrontational, but rather as a personal decision shaped by changing political circumstances and future aspirations.
However, he did not disclose any new political affiliation or next move after leaving the ADC. This silence has sparked speculation among political observers, many of whom believe his resignation may be connected to wider political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Analysts suggest that his exit may form part of a larger pattern of political repositioning among influential figures preparing for upcoming electoral contests.
At this stage, Gwarzo’s future political direction remains unknown, leaving supporters and observers watching closely for his next step in the evolving political scene.
