Abaribe Dumps ADC for Labour Party

Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Labour Party (LP), marking yet another shift in his long and dynamic political career.

The development was disclosed by the Abia State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Emenike Iroegbu, who confirmed that the lawmaker has formally aligned with the party. According to him, Abaribe’s entry strengthens the party’s structure in the state and reflects ongoing realignments within the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abaribe’s latest move adds to a series of strategic political transitions that have defined his career over the years. In December 2025, he joined the ADC after leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the platform under which he secured re-election during the 2023 general elections. His stay in the ADC, however, lasted only a few months before this new defection.

Currently serving his fifth term in the Senate, Abaribe remains one of the most experienced lawmakers representing Abia South Senatorial District. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a vocal legislator, often taking firm positions on national issues, governance, and accountability.

His return to the Labour Party is particularly significant given the party’s growing influence in the South-East following its performance in the 2023 elections. The LP secured considerable support in the region, reshaping the traditional political landscape and challenging established parties.
