Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has called on the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, to refrain from making public remarks that could reignite political tensions, urging instead a focus on unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The appeal follows comments reportedly made by Governor Oborevwori during a lecture in Lagos titled “Inclusive Governance and National Unity: Lessons from Delta State for a United Nigeria,” where he referenced the outcome of the 2023 Delta State governorship election and mocked Omo-Agege’s performance.
Responding in a statement, Omo-Agege said there was no longer any justification for political hostility between them, noting that both leaders now belong to the same political family under the APC.
“If we were still in different political parties, I would feel compelled to respond in full measure, as an adversary would. But that is no longer the case. We are now one family under the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.
He emphasized that the party in Delta State requires unity rather than division, especially as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
“What Delta APC needs today is not division, but unity,” Omo-Agege stated, adding that his primary objective remains ensuring electoral victory for the party at all levels.
“As a frontline leader in our party, my goal is clear: to secure victory for every APC candidate, from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu down to our House of Assembly candidates. That commitment remains sacrosanct,” he added.
The former senator further urged all stakeholders to move past the 2023 elections, describing them as concluded matters that should not be revisited.
“The 2023 governorship election has come and gone and is now behind us. The Supreme Court has spoken, and its decision is final. And I respect the judgment fully,” he said.
While acknowledging Governor Oborevwori’s victory, Omo-Agege also highlighted his own performance during the election, noting that his camp secured over 240,000 votes and won in four local government areas of Delta Central.
“I am proud of the over 240,000 votes that gave us victory in four Delta Central LGAs. To every Deltan who supported me in 2023, I remain grateful,” he said.
He reiterated his commitment to strengthening the APC in Delta State and called on the governor to join hands in fostering reconciliation and inclusiveness within the party.
“Since May 29, 2023, I have pursued one mission: strengthening the unity of our party. I will not relent,” he noted.
Omo-Agege concluded by appealing to Governor Oborevwori, who he described as the leader of the APC in Delta State, to promote healing and avoid actions or statements that could deepen divisions.
“I respectfully urge His Excellency to join me in fostering healing, reconciliation, and inclusion. We must silence every voice and action that seeks to divide us. Only a united APC can deliver Delta State for President Tinubu and win every seat in 2027,” he said.
The development highlights ongoing efforts within the Delta APC to consolidate its ranks and position itself strongly ahead of the next electoral cycle.
