Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with top foreign diplomats in Abuja, in what observers interpret as early political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The breakfast meeting, which took place in the Federal Capital Territory, brought together the British High Commissioner to Nigeria alongside representatives from the European Union, Germany, Canada, and France.
Obi confirmed the meeting in a post on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as “an enriching discussion on relationships.” However, he did not disclose specific details of the deliberations.
Despite the limited information, the timing of the engagement has attracted attention from political analysts, who note that such interactions often signal strategic positioning ahead of major elections.
In recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in engagements between Nigerian political figures and members of the international community. These discussions typically focus on governance, economic stability, and democratic development.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and a key contender in the 2023 presidential election, has remained active in national discourse. He continues to advocate for economic reforms, transparency in governance, and accountable leadership.
