West Ham United boss Nuno Espírito Santo has praised Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi as a remarkable talent following the Nigerian’s brilliant long-range goal in Fulham’s 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur at Craven Cottage.
Ahead of his team’s upcoming fixture, Nuno was asked about Fulham’s recent victory and quickly singled out Iwobi’s performance.
“Part of our role is to watch all matches, and Fulham impressed me. They are a strong team and consistently perform well. Marco Silva is doing an outstanding job, and Alex Iwobi — that goal he scored — they have so many gifted players,” Nuno commented on West Ham’s official website.
Iwobi found space in the 34th minute and unleashed a powerful curling effort that hit the far post and went in, leaving Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario frozen. The strike marked the 29-year-old’s fourth Premier League goal this season and his second in consecutive league matches — a first for him this campaign.
Fulham manager Marco Silva described the goal as one of Iwobi’s finest. “It’s among his best. He can pull off moments like that. He’s at his best when he picks a corner and strikes with precision,” Silva said.
Former Tottenham midfielder Glenn Hoddle also praised the goal’s unusual flight on Premier League Productions. “What a strike — the curl is incredible. Normally, it would go wide, but it went straight in,” Hoddle said.
Ex-Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison added, “That’s an exceptional goal. Usually, you drive it with your laces from that distance, but he placed it perfectly away from the keeper.”
Harry Wilson opened the scoring for Fulham before Iwobi’s strike doubled their lead. Richarlison scored for Spurs in the 66th minute, making for a tense finish. Fulham held on to secure all three points, moving up to ninth in the Premier League, while Tottenham stay 16th, four points above the relegation zone, extending their winless run to ten league matches.
