The National Sports Commission has transferred control of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium to the Kaduna State Government to enable comprehensive renovation of the sports complex.
The decision is aimed at accelerating plans to restore the facility and upgrade it to meet present-day sporting standards. With the handover completed, the state government is now expected to oversee the rehabilitation, management, and long-term maintenance of the stadium.
Officials involved in the process explained that the arena has experienced years of deterioration, making improvement works necessary to return it to active use for major competitions. They added that allowing the state authorities to manage the facility would ensure quicker intervention and better supervision of upgrade projects.
Kaduna State representatives described the development as a major boost for sports growth, noting that the renovation would revive sporting activities and create opportunities for athletes within the state and beyond. Proposed improvements are expected to cover essential areas such as the football pitch, seating sections, and auxiliary facilities.
Sports observers believe the planned upgrade will help attract tournaments, encourage youth participation in sports, and stimulate economic activities around the stadium environment.
The move also reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between federal sports bodies and state governments in maintaining key sporting infrastructure nationwide.
