FIFA has announced plans to lead a major fundraising drive aimed at restoring football infrastructure in Gaza following the destruction caused by the prolonged conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The initiative was unveiled in Washington during the first meeting of President Donald Trump’s newly established “Board of Peace,” a group made up of several of his close associates and currently focused on rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
Addressing the gathering, Trump said, “I’m also pleased to announce that FIFA will be helping to raise a total of $75 million for projects in Gaza.” He added, “And I think they’re soccer related, where you’re doing fields and you’re getting the greatest stars in the world to go there — people that are bigger stars than you and I, Gianni.”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who attended the event, later issued a statement outlining plans to construct a football academy, a 20,000-seat national stadium and numerous playing pitches. The football governing body said funds would be sourced from international leaders and institutions.
Infantino described the collaboration as “a landmark partnership agreement that will foster investment into football for the purpose of helping the recovery process in post-conflict areas.”
