Bolaji Abdullahi has said Nigerians expect cooperation rather than competition within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the public presentation of his book The Loyalist, Mr Abdullahi, who is the ADC’s spokesperson, said Nigerians were politically prepared for 2027, but the party’s leadership was yet to demonstrate the unity required to meet public expectations.
He observed that many voters currently perceive rivalry and factionalism within the ADC instead of cooperation and collective purpose. According to him, Nigeria has no viable alternative at this critical moment, urging party leaders to place national interest and the party’s survival above personal ambition, popularity, or financial contributions.
“Citizens across the country are waiting on us not to fail them. Public expectations are high,” he said.
Mr Abdullahi appealed for unity within the party, calling on members to channel their passion into building one strong political platform. He stressed that the ADC’s mission must take precedence over individual ambitions and narrow partisan interests.
Reviewing the book, former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said the title The Loyalist initially evoked curiosity and prejudice but ultimately proved to be compelling, honest, and self-justifying rather than self-indulgent.
He described the 297-page, ten-chapter autobiography as one of the most readable books in recent times, noting that it explored themes of courage, intellect, character, and Nigeria’s evolving social and political landscape.
Mr Baba-Ahmed said the book recalled an era of strong public education, influential journalism, and respected media, while illustrating how power, institutions, and individuals shaped opportunities for young Nigerians.
He added that the narrative candidly examined loyalty, the shadows of power, and Mr Abdullahi’s relationship with former Senate President Bukola Saraki, capturing moments of influence, rise, decline, and enduring political lessons.
According to the reviewer, the book challenges the myth of the self-made leader, arguing that politics requires patrons, sacrifice, failure, and resilience. He concluded that the book offers valuable lessons for students of power and deserves wide readership, especially at a time when Nigeria needs a strong opposition, credible alternatives, and reflective leadership ahead of the pivotal 2027 elections.
