The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Nenadi Usman, has said the party remains the strongest political party in Nigeria, citing its wide grassroots presence and institutional support.
Usman said the Labour Party is uniquely positioned among political parties because of its affiliation with major labour bodies such as the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which she described as a major strength of the party.
According to her, the party’s full potential was not realised during the 2023 general elections due to lapses in coordination, particularly the failure to adequately involve the NLC and TUC in the electoral process.
She noted that the Labour Party has members across all polling units in the country, including teachers, nurses, and retired civil servants, adding that proper utilisation of this structure would make the party a dominant political force.
Usman also said the Labour Party pioneered electronic registration for party membership, a system that has since been adopted by other political parties.
She maintained that with better organisation and effective engagement of its institutional members, the Labour Party would be well positioned to achieve greater success in future elections.
