The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has officially flagged off the party’s electronic membership registration (e-registration) exercise as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The launch marks a key step in the ruling party’s statewide campaign to update, revalidate and expand its membership database using digital technology.
Speaking at the flag-off event on January 19, 2026, Chief Okocha highlighted that the transition to e-registration is crucial for building a credible and verifiable membership roll that reflects the APC’s strength across wards, local government areas and constituencies in Rivers State. He urged party members — both old and new — to embrace the digital process and ensure they are properly captured in the official registry.
The e-registration initiative, which is being rolled out nationwide by the APC, requires members to submit valid identification details, including their National Identification Number (NIN) and voter’s card information, to authenticate and digitise their membership records. National party leaders have emphasised that the digital system is designed to modernise internal party processes, enhance inclusivity, and prevent discrepancies associated with manual membership lists.
Okocha noted that a comprehensive and up-to-date database will help the party plan more effectively for internal congresses, primaries and the broader electoral battles that lie ahead. He reiterated that the exercise aims to capture all bona-fide APC supporters and make sure no loyal member is left out, echoing directives from the party’s national leadership that e-registration is mandatory and central to organisational renewal.
The APC state chairman also called for unity and cooperation among party functionaries at the ward and local government levels, saying that collective participation in the e-registration exercise will strengthen the party’s grassroots structure, improve member engagement and enhance mobilisation ahead of crucial political contests.
Political stakeholders say that the APC’s e-registration drive which is scheduled to run until January 30, 2026 at the national level — is part of a broader strategy to consolidate the party’s data ahead of internal primaries and the 2027 general elections, ensuring that the party can confidently plan campaigns and outreach based on reliable membership figures.
Chief Okocha’s flag-off in Rivers State reflects the party’s nationwide push to institutionalise digital registration and reinforce internal democracy, signalling a concerted effort to modernise party structures and strengthen its competitiveness ahead of future electoral challenges.
