Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has formally registered as a certified member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and received his electronic party membership card, becoming one of the first in the state to complete the party’s ongoing digital registration process.

Okpebholo received his card on Sunday, January 18, 2026, during the APC’s e-registration exercise held in his hometown of Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State. The initiative is part of a broader nationwide effort by the party to strengthen membership enumeration ahead of upcoming elections.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the simplicity and accessibility of the electronic registration system, which allows members to sign up using biometric and identity verification requirements such as a National Identification Number (NIN) and voter’s card. He described the digital process as “easy and transparent,” noting it removes barriers that previously made membership registration cumbersome for many party supporters.

“I am delighted with this APC e-registration exercise,” Okpebholo told journalists after receiving his card. “It is straightforward, efficient, and encourages more people to formalise their membership. I urge all APC members and those interested in joining the party to register and obtain their cards.”

Okpebholo also thanked the party’s e-registration team for facilitating the process and called on Edo citizens to participate actively in efforts to expand and consolidate the APC’s grassroots strength across the state. He highlighted that the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to inclusivity and broad participation as it mobilises support in preparation for future electoral contests.

The APC e-registration exercise targets comprehensive membership documentation across all 18 local government areas of Edo State, aimed at galvanising grassroots support and fostering greater internal democracy within the party. The exercise is expected to digitally capture details of party members, strengthening the APC’s organisational structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Officials involved in the registration stressed that the rollout of the electronic membership system will help resolve challenges associated with manual registration and outdated records. The approach is intended to make the membership database more accurate, verifiable and accessible for party planning, from ward to national levels.
