Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 2–0 victory over Algeria, delivering a performance full of discipline, confidence and attacking edge.
From the opening whistle, Nigeria made their intentions clear. The midfield pressed aggressively, cutting off Algeria’s passing lanes and forcing mistakes, while the wide players stretched the North Africans with pace and direct running. The early pressure paid off when Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock, rising highest in the box to meet a perfectly weighted cross and head past the Algerian goalkeeper, sending the Nigerian fans into wild celebrations.
Algeria tried to respond, pushing numbers forward and creating a few half-chances, but Nigeria’s defence stood firm, with the back line calmly dealing with crosses and long balls. Just before the break, the Super Eagles nearly doubled their lead, but a close-range effort was narrowly saved.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Algeria seeing more of the ball but struggling to break through Nigeria’s organised shape. Then came the decisive moment. Akor Adams latched onto a loose ball inside the area after a quick counterattack and calmly slotted it home to make it 2–0, effectively putting the tie beyond Algeria’s reach.
From there, Nigeria managed the game with maturity, keeping possession, slowing the tempo when needed, and limiting Algeria to long-range attempts that posed little threat. As the final whistle blew, the Super Eagles celebrated a well-earned victory that confirmed their place among the last four teams in the tournament.
With Osimhen leading the line and Akor adding cutting edge in attack, Nigeria now march into the semi-finals full of belief, looking every inch like a team ready to challenge for the AFCON 2025 crown.
