The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, has assured Nigerians of a peaceful and secure atmosphere during the forthcoming Christmas celebrations.
Ajose gave the assurance on Thursday night during the annual Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons held at the Giginya Cantonment, an event that brought together officers, soldiers, families, security agencies, and members of the host community for an evening of worship, music and renewed hope.
The GOC, who also serves as Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, described the carol as not only a celebration of faith but also a reminder of the Army’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding residents throughout the festive season.
Extending warm Christmas greetings, Major General Ajose commended troops for their resilience and sacrifices in maintaining peace across the division’s area of responsibility.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to the gallant men and women of the 8 Division for your tireless efforts,” he said.
“Your commitment—in collaboration with our sister agencies—is commendable. It is through this dedication that we can guarantee a peaceful and secure environment for all.”
The event featured uplifting performances by the Combined Choir of the Protestant and Roman Catholic Chapels of the 8 Division, the Sokoto Deanery Choir, and the Organisation of African Independent Churches (OAIC), among others.
Distinguished guests from various security and paramilitary agencies also attended, reflecting the deepening cooperation between the Army and other stakeholders in sustaining security across the North West.
With music, prayers and fellowship, the carol strengthened unity within the cantonment and reinforced its bond with the host community—boosting confidence in a safer, more peaceful Christmas season throughout Sokoto and the wider region.
