Mohamed Salah has publicly stated that his relationship with Liverpool manager Arne Slot has broken down, creating a massive controversy at the club. After being benched for three consecutive matches, Salah told journalists “someone doesn’t want me in the club” following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
Slot said he was “surprised” by Salah’s comments and revealed the only communication he’s had with the player since was a brief conversation informing him he wouldn’t be traveling to Milan for their Champions League match against Inter. The manager admitted he has “no clue” whether Salah will play for Liverpool again.
Salah was left out of Liverpool’s squad for their 1-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan, with the decision taken by sporting director Richard Hughes in conjunction with the club’s ownership and manager Slot. This move appears to show unified support for the manager from Liverpool’s leadership.
Slot has suggested that Salah may need to take the initiative in resolving the dispute, though the manager later clarified he didn’t specify who should make the first move. Several pundits have called for Salah to issue a public apology, with Saturday’s match against Brighton potentially being his last appearance before he leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Saudi Arabian Pro League clubs are reportedly waiting to see if peace can be brokered between the two before making any approach for the forward, with three clubs expressing interest in signing him.
