Nigeria’s para volleyball team emerged victorious at the first-ever West Africa Zone A & B tournament held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, defeating Ghana 3-0 in the final to claim the title.
The team kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 triumph over Niger Republic, winning the sets 25-13, 25-20, and 25-22 in a challenging opener.
In the final against Ghana, Nigeria dominated every set. They raced through the first set 25-10, maintained control in the second with a 25-6 win, and closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the third set.
Kayode Ladele, President of the Paravolley Federation of Nigeria, said the success reflects the federation’s ongoing efforts to grow para volleyball in the country.
“This achievement is very satisfying. The work we have invested in developing para volleyball in Nigeria is now clearly visible. Winning is the best proof of progress,” Ladele said.
Priscilla Agara, the team’s Technical Director and Head Coach, expressed appreciation to Ladele for giving the squad exposure to international competitions, including the 2024 Paralympic Games qualifiers and the 2024 Paravolleyball Club Championship.
“The victory is a major accomplishment for Nigeria, reinforcing our standing in West Africa. I am thankful for the dedication of my players, who brought home the gold,” Agara added.
