Emmanuel Udom, the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has called on Nigerians to set aside biases and unite in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that collective cooperation is essential for addressing the numerous challenges currently facing the nation.
Speaking with journalists at the Pre-Service of Nine Lessons and Carols held at the United Evangelical Church, Surulere, Lagos, on Sunday, Udom urged citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political divides to provide the President with the backing needed to steer Nigeria toward stability and progress.
According to Udom, the country is at a critical juncture where internal disagreements and political tensions could threaten national unity and hinder development. He emphasized that Nigerians must focus on shared goals and give President Tinubu the opportunity to tackle pressing issues such as economic instability, insecurity, and social inequality. “This is not the time to dwell on factors that create divisions or amplify disagreements,” Udom said. “The nation must pull together to confront common challenges by supporting leadership committed to resolving them.”
The former governor further highlighted the importance of prioritizing national interests over personal or sectional considerations, stating that only a unified citizenry can provide the environment for meaningful governance and sustainable development. He commended President Tinubu’s efforts so far and encouraged the administration to continue pursuing visionary policies designed to enhance economic growth, strengthen institutions, and improve the overall quality of life for Nigerians.
Udom also reminded citizens that collective responsibility extends beyond mere support for the President; it includes active participation in civic initiatives, constructive dialogue, and collaboration across communities to overcome obstacles facing the country. He stressed that unity, understanding, and shared commitment would be critical in ensuring that government policies have a lasting impact on society.
He concluded by appealing to Nigerians to exercise patience and extend the necessary cooperation to the Tinubu administration. “Nigerians across every region and community must come together at this crucial moment in our national life. Only by supporting President Tinubu can we overcome the challenges that threaten our collective progress and secure a future of prosperity and stability for all,” Udom stated.
The message from the former Akwa Ibom governor comes at a time when the country faces a complex mix of economic pressures, security concerns, and social tensions. Udom’s call for unity and national support reflects the growing sentiment among political leaders that collaboration between government and citizens is vital to overcoming the hurdles confronting Nigeria today.
