Preparations are nearing completion for the 2025 Niger Delta Peace and Meritorious (NDPM) Awards, an annual ceremony dedicated to recognising individuals and institutions that have contributed significantly to peacebuilding, development, and innovation in the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

One of the major highlights of this year’s edition is the recognition of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who will be honoured with the Niger Delta Agent of Peace Award. Organisers say the former president is being acknowledged for his remarkable efforts in promoting unity, stability, and diplomatic engagement within Nigeria and across Africa.

The NDPM Awards celebrate excellence in leadership, peace advocacy, community service, arts, innovation, and human capital development, with the goal of inspiring younger generations to emulate the values upheld by the honourees.

Also to be honoured is the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who will receive the Niger Delta Pillar of Peace Award. His recognition is tied to his support for developmental reforms, legislative interventions, and socio-economic initiatives that aim to enhance growth in the region.

Renowned community leader Chief Keston Pondi will receive the Niger Delta Man of the Year Award, celebrating his long-standing contributions to community empowerment, humanitarian work, and regional development. Organisers describe this category as pivotal in encouraging emerging leaders to pursue excellence and impactful service.

According to the award committee, the NDPM initiative serves as a platform to highlight the rich talent, achievements, and innovations within the Niger Delta. It also seeks to strengthen collaboration among government agencies, private-sector organisations, and grassroots actors working toward a peaceful and prosperous region.

The high-profile ceremony is scheduled for January 13, 2026, and will take place at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. It is expected to draw notable national figures, development experts, cultural icons, and industry leaders.

Organisers added that final preparations are well underway, with the full list of honourees and detailed programme schedule set to be released in the coming weeks.
