The 2023 Ogun State governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ajadi, a businessman and political activist, described his defection as “a strategic and patriotic step toward rebuilding Nigeria’s unity and hope.”
He announced the move on Monday, November 10, 2025, during a press briefing where he distributed copies of his resignation letter to journalists. The letter was addressed to the NNPP leadership at the ward, local government, state, zonal, and national levels.
Explaining his decision, Ajadi said it followed careful reflection on the country’s political direction and the need to work within a stronger and more inclusive platform capable of driving real transformation.
“My decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party is both strategic and patriotic. I have great respect for the NNPP and what it stands for, but at this point in Nigeria’s history, the PDP offers a broader and stronger platform for national reconciliation, youth empowerment, and true federalism,” he stated.
No Bad Blood With NNPP
Ajadi, who contested the Ogun governorship election after stepping down as a presidential aspirant for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, clarified that his decision was not driven by conflict.
“There is no bad blood between me and my former party. I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served under its banner,” he said.
“However, as Nigeria continues to face economic hardship, unemployment, and leadership challenges, it is time for like-minded patriots to unite and rebuild trust in governance.”
Political observers have described Ajadi’s move as a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, expected to bring new coalitions and shifts in political alliances across the country.
“Nigeria is at a crossroads. We need leaders who can listen to the people and act selflessly,” Ajadi said. “I believe my entry into the PDP will help strengthen the party’s grassroots base and renew hope among ordinary Nigerians.”
PDP leaders in the South-West welcomed his defection, describing it as a “significant boost to the party’s democratic family.” They praised his integrity, youth engagement, and contributions to social development.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparent and inclusive governance, Ajadi said his move was not just about politics but about rebuilding confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
“This is about rekindling the faith of Nigerians in democracy and ensuring that our people begin to feel the real dividends of good governance,” he said.
He pledged to work closely with PDP leaders at all levels to promote peace, unity, and development across the nation.
