The Ekiti State branch of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming 2026 election.

The Council expressed its delight during its monthly meeting held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Ansar-Ud-Deen Central Mosque, Ewu Ekiti, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area.

Speaking after the meeting, the State President of the Council, Alhaji Dr. Hammed Bakare, commended Governor Oyebanji for what he described as his “commendable leadership, inclusive governance, and visible developmental achievements” over the past three years.

According to Dr. Bakare, the Governor’s performance since assuming office has earned him the trust and confidence of the people, as well as the respect of political stakeholders across party lines.

He said the Council was not surprised that the APC in Ekiti State opted for a consensus approach in reaffirming Oyebanji as its flag bearer, noting that the move demonstrates the Governor’s wide acceptability and strong connection with the grassroots.

“We felicitate with our hardworking Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on the occasion of his third anniversary in office,” the statement read. “The Council also congratulates His Excellency on his emergence as the consensus candidate of the APC for the 2026 gubernatorial election. This is a clear testimony to his unwavering dedication to the welfare of Ekiti people and the infrastructural progress of the State.”

The Council further offered prayers for continued divine guidance and success for the Governor as he prepares for another electoral contest.

“May Almighty Allah, who has guided and supported him since the beginning of his tenure, continue to lead him to a triumphant end,” the Council added.

Dr. Bakare reaffirmed the NSCIA’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, and moral leadership across Ekiti State, urging political leaders and citizens to prioritize the collective development of the State above partisan interests.

He also commended the Oyebanji-led administration for maintaining religious harmony and supporting faith-based organizations in their social and humanitarian missions.

Governor Oyebanji, who was first elected in 2022, has focused his administration on infrastructure expansion, youth empowerment, education, and agricultural development. His emergence as a consensus candidate positions him as a strong contender ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race.

Political observers note that the APC’s decision to adopt the consensus method aims to maintain party cohesion and avoid internal disputes as the State gears up for another competitive election season.

With the NSCIA’s endorsement and the Governor’s growing popularity, many analysts believe Oyebanji enters the 2026 contest with a strong base of support and a record of performance likely to shape Ekiti’s political direction in the coming months.
