Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has reached out to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, signaling a thaw in their strained relationship. The lawmaker has formally invited Akpabio to attend a project commissioning ceremony in her constituency as part of events marking her second anniversary in office.
The invitation, personally signed by Senator Natasha, was read by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session at the National Assembly.
“In marking my second-year anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite my fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter read in part.
The commissioning event is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State. The senator stated that the meeting point would be her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, and advised visiting lawmakers arriving by air to land at the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding to the venue by road.
Responding after reading the letter, Akpabio congratulated her warmly, saying, “Congratulations in advance.” His comment drew a few murmurs from colleagues, given the well-known tension that had existed between the two senators.
This development is being viewed as a major step toward reconciliation following their previous political disagreements. Earlier in the year, a dispute over committee and seat allocation led to Natasha’s six-month suspension from the Senate on March 6.
Since her reinstatement on September 24, Senator Natasha has been more active during plenary sessions and has occasionally interacted with Akpabio, but this invitation represents her most public gesture of reconciliation yet.
Observers see the move as a positive step toward fostering unity within the Senate and strengthening collaboration between lawmakers and the leadership.
