‎Residents of Dunukofia Local Government Area in Anambra State have thrown their full weight behind Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s reelection bid, donating funds to support his campaign ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election. The endorsement took place during the community’s annual New Yam Festival, “Iweife-Ubi”, which was celebrated in grand style at the local government headquarters in Ukpo.
‎
‎The colourful event attracted a large crowd of party faithful, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents who came together to reaffirm their support for the governor. The governor, his wife Dr. Nonye Soludo, and the deputy governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, were among the dignitaries present at the occasion. The people of Dunukofia seized the opportunity not only to celebrate their cultural heritage but also to demonstrate their political loyalty by making financial contributions to Soludo’s reelection campaign under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
‎
‎Speaking on behalf of the community, the President-General of Ukpo, Mr. Cyril Ezewulu, declared that the entire Dunukofia LGA was firmly behind the governor’s reelection. He stated that no individual or group from the area would work against Soludo in the forthcoming poll. “We are for Soludo,” Ezewulu said emphatically, as he presented the community’s donation to the governor. He praised the administration for bringing infrastructural and educational development to the area and urged residents to continue supporting the government’s programs.
‎
‎Similarly, the Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Mr. Clement Ozumba, highlighted several developmental projects that have been completed under Soludo’s leadership. He mentioned the construction of major roads in the area, including the 10.2-kilometre and 3.1-kilometre road networks, as well as the establishment of smart schools such as the Community Primary School in Umunachi. According to him, Soludo’s achievements have brought a new face to Anambra State and improved the standard of living for residents. “The governor has done exceptionally well for Dunukofia and Anambra State in general. His administration has demonstrated a clear commitment to grassroots development,” Ozumba said.
‎
‎Governor Soludo, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the overwhelming show of support from the Dunukofia people and assured them that he remained committed to the state’s progress. He reaffirmed his administration’s focus on education, infrastructure, and security, which he described as the three pillars of sustainable development. “We have been building the foundation,” the governor said. “In just a few years, we have recruited over 8,000 teachers, modernized public schools, improved the road network, and strengthened security across communities. Anambra is on the path to greatness.”
‎
‎Soludo added that his administration’s achievements were only the beginning, noting that the next term would consolidate ongoing projects and deliver even more visible results. He expressed confidence that with the level of support he enjoys from the grassroots, APGA would once again win convincingly across all wards and polling units in the forthcoming election.
‎
‎The event also featured the inauguration of the Dunukofia Legislative Building, commissioned by the governor. In addition, traditional rulers and local leaders honoured prominent sons and daughters of the area who had contributed to the community’s development. One of the highlights of the celebration was the conferment of the chieftaincy title “Agubuzo Na Dunukofia” on Chief Jim Nwabueze, in recognition of his service to the community.
‎
‎As part of the festival activities, the local government organized a farmers’ competition aimed at promoting agricultural productivity in line with Soludo’s “One Household, One Farm” initiative. Winners of various categories received cash prizes: ₦500,000 for the largest cassava farm, ₦300,000 for the largest yam tuber, and ₦200,000 for the biggest poultry farm. The governor commended the farmers for their hard work and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting agriculture and food security across Anambra.
‎
‎The endorsement and financial donations by the Dunukofia community have been interpreted as a significant political statement in favour of Governor Soludo’s second-term ambition. Political observers say the move demonstrates the governor’s strong grassroots appeal and the continued popularity of APGA in the state. It also underscores the confidence many residents have in his leadership style and developmental policies.
‎
‎As the 2025 election draws closer, Soludo’s growing support base across various local government areas is expected to play a crucial role in determining the political direction of the state. With communities like Dunukofia publicly declaring their allegiance, the governor appears well-positioned to secure a second term in office.
