Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and assured that the party’s forthcoming national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, will hold as planned and run smoothly.
Adeleke, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the PDP National Convention Committee and heads the Accommodation Sub-committee, gave the assurance on Monday after the inaugural meeting of the committee in Abuja.
He said all arrangements for the convention were being carried out in line with the party’s internal processes and culture of organisation.
“We believe it will be very successful. As we all know, the PDP believes in proper organisation, in doing things the right way, and in accordance with the rule of law. That is exactly what we are doing,” Adeleke said.
He expressed confidence that the upcoming convention would surpass previous ones, adding that the PDP had a long-standing record of conducting transparent and successful conventions.
Speaking on reports of internal disputes within the party, Adeleke dismissed them as normal challenges being addressed through dialogue and internal mechanisms.
“I can assure you that we are meeting and resolving our issues internally. It is a family affair. We do not want anyone outside to add sugar, pepper, or salt to the matter; we are handling it ourselves. The PDP is a family, and we know how to manage our affairs,” he said.
Adeleke also reacted to the recent defection of some high-profile PDP members, including governors and ministers, to other political parties, saying such movements were normal in politics and would not affect the strength or structure of the PDP.
“Anybody, whether a governor or a minister, has the right to make their own decision. That does not change anything in the PDP. We still have strong membership and widespread support across Nigeria,” he stated.
The governor further dismissed claims that he was planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), explaining that his attendance at social events organised by friends in other political parties did not translate to disloyalty.
“I’m a very civilised person. If I have friends in the APC and they invite me to a wedding or social function, I will attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them. As we speak, I am the deputy chairman of our convention. I remain a loyal member of the PDP,” he said.
Adeleke reiterated the PDP’s commitment to unity, proper organisation, and internal democracy, expressing optimism that the November convention would further strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
