Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has seen his market value take a major hit in the latest Transfermarkt update, dropping sharply from €40 million to €20 million — the biggest decline recorded by any player in the Bundesliga.
The 24-year-old’s valuation has been slashed in half following a difficult spell for both club and country, a steep fall from the heights he reached during his breakout seasons in Europe.
Despite the setback, Boniface remains Werder Bremen’s most valuable player. However, he now ranks sixth among Nigerian footballers, having previously been third. In broader rankings, he sits 57th in the Bundesliga, 68th among players born in 2000, and 79th among all centre-forwards worldwide.
His troubles began during the summer when a high-profile transfer to AC Milan fell through after he reportedly failed his medical. The failed move marked a turning point for a player whose value had skyrocketed from under €1 million just three years ago to €45 million at the height of Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten 2023/24 season, during which he lifted three trophies.
Now on loan at Werder Bremen, Boniface is yet to find the net for his new team, featuring mainly as a substitute in four league matches. He has managed only one assist so far — in Bremen’s 4–0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach — and has struggled to rediscover his form.
His situation with the Super Eagles has also worsened under new coach Eric Chelle, who has largely overlooked him in recent international fixtures. Boniface was left out of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying matches in September and October, as Chelle preferred Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Terem Moffi to back up Victor Osimhen.
It marks a disappointing turn for a player who once looked destined for the top after his prolific spell at Union Saint-Gilloise, where he claimed the Europa League Golden Boot in 2023 — a feat that earned him his move to Leverkusen.
Meanwhile, other Nigerian stars in Germany — Nathan Tella (€15m), Felix Agu (€8m), Jordan Torunarigha (€4m), and Kevin Akpoguma (€2.5m) — maintained their market values in the latest review.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, the latest update brought positive news for top clubs. Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala retained his €140 million value, becoming the league’s most valuable player following Florian Wirtz’s move to Liverpool. His teammate Michael Olise enjoyed a massive jump, gaining €30 million to reach €130 million, reinforcing his reputation as one of the brightest young attackers in Germany.
Interestingly, both Musiala and Olise have Nigerian heritage.
In other notable movements, Dayot Upamecano’s value rose by 20 percent to €60 million, while 17-year-old sensation Lennart Karl saw his worth skyrocket from €1.5 million to €20 million — an incredible 1,233 percent increase — making him the most valuable player born in 2008.
