Reality TV star and entrepreneur Tacha has opened up on her decision to stage her Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt for the most makeovers done in 24 hours in Nigeria, despite initially planning to host the event in the United Kingdom.
The record-breaking attempt, which began Saturday night and formed part of the Tacha Beauty Festival, aimed to spotlight Nigerian creativity and promote the country’s beauty industry on a global platform.
In an interview with online personality Egungun, Tacha revealed that she had secured sponsorship from international beauty brand NYX and was preparing to host the event in London, but ultimately chose Nigeria to better reflect the energy and talent she wanted to showcase.
“The plan was London. We already had plans, we had a brand that wanted to sponsor us — NYX,” she said.
“But I said, London is not that country that will give me the vibe I want. Then I thought, see my people, they are here.
It always makes sense to carry your country along. I’m putting the Nigerian beauty industry on a freaking global map.”
Breaking Records on Home Soil
Tacha’s GWR attempt targeted 150 full makeovers within 24 hours. By Sunday morning, just 12 hours into the challenge, she had already completed 115 makeovers, surpassing the previous record of 113 set over a full day.
The attempt was carried out under tight timelines, with Tacha completing each makeover in a matter of minutes. Despite minor setbacks such as power disruptions, the event continued with high energy and focus.
Two Years in the Making
Tacha revealed that the attempt had been in the works for over two years, underscoring her determination to succeed and her commitment to using the platform to celebrate Nigerian resilience, beauty, and culture.
She also dedicated the feat to her late mother, stating that her drive to excel was inspired by her mother’s influence and encouragement.
“This is for my mum. She always told me I could do anything,” she said during the challenge.
More Than a Record Attempt
Beyond setting a new world record, the event served as a celebration of African excellence in beauty and entrepreneurship, featuring live performances, cultural showcases, and partnerships with local creatives.
The Tacha Beauty Festival attracted beauty professionals, influencers, and supporters from across the country, reinforcing Tacha’s growing influence beyond reality TV into business and global advocacy for Nigerian creatives.
The Guinness World Records is yet to officially confirm the new record, but the documentation process is already underway.
