The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and the arrest of five suspects following a violent clash between rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi communities of Badagry.
According to police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi, the incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday after a distress call alerted authorities to ongoing violence in the area. Tactical teams and detectives were swiftly deployed, leading to the rescue of three injured victims, who were rushed to Badagry General Hospital. Sadly, one of the victims was confirmed dead on arrival.
A coordinated follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects, aged between 28 and 43, believed to be involved in the clash. Recovered items included a locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two used cartridges, a Toyota Avalon (registration number KTU 610 JB), a laptop, several mobile phones, and other dangerous weapons.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. Efforts are ongoing to track down other cult members who fled the scene, while security patrols and surveillance have been intensified to prevent further violence.
Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh commended the prompt and professional response of officers involved in the operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and violent crime across Lagos State, urging residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
