President Bola Tinubu has reiterated the urgent need for Nigerians to patronize made-in-Nigeria products, stressing that the nation must shift from being primarily consumers to becoming producers of goods and services.
The president made this call in his address on Wednesday in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
“On this 65th Anniversary of our independence, my message is one of hope and a call to action. The Federal Government will continue to do its part to fix the plumbing of our economy. Now, we must all turn on the taps of productivity, innovation, and enterprise,” Tinubu said.
He urged state governments, businesses, and citizens alike to rally behind the cause of nation-building by investing in local industries and prioritizing homegrown products.
“Let us be a nation of producers, not just consumers. Let us farm our lands and build factories to process our produce. Let us patronize ‘Made-in-Nigeria’ goods. I say Nigeria first. Let us pay our taxes,” he added.
Highlighting the achievements of his administration, Tinubu revealed that Nigeria had recorded significant progress in non-oil revenue generation, surpassing its 2025 target by August with collections exceeding N20 trillion.
“In September alone, the non-oil revenue raised was N3.65 trillion — 411 per cent higher than the amount raised in May 2023,” the president noted.
He further disclosed that Nigeria has recorded a trade surplus for five consecutive quarters, a development he described as a “fundamental shift” that strengthens the naira and generates jobs within the country.
According to him, Nigeria’s trade surplus increased by 44.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2025, rising to N7.46 trillion (equivalent to 4.74 billion dollars) — the highest in nearly three years.
Tinubu also emphasized that locally manufactured goods destined for export had grown remarkably, with a 173 per cent increase, underscoring the potential of Nigeria’s industrial sector when properly harnessed.
He concluded his address with a rallying call to Nigerians to embrace innovation, support local enterprise, and demonstrate patriotism through their consumer choices.
“With unity, productivity, and resilience, we can redefine our economy and secure a prosperous future for our nation,” Tinubu said.
