The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally released the list of members who will serve on various sub-committees ahead of its much-anticipated 2025 elective national convention. The convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, is expected to mark a major milestone in the party’s preparations for future political engagements, especially as it seeks to consolidate its structures and elect new national officers.
The announcement was made on Monday through the PDP’s official X handle and was endorsed by the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Chairman, Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State. According to the statement, the approved sub-committees will handle the detailed planning and execution of the convention to ensure it is conducted smoothly, transparently, and in line with party rules.
In total, more than 100 individuals have been appointed to chair or serve on the different committees. The list reflects a cross-section of PDP heavyweights, including governors, senators, former ministers, and other seasoned stakeholders, highlighting the importance the party attaches to the upcoming gathering.
For the Accommodation Committee, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke was named chairman. He will be supportedby former Gombe governor, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, who will serve as deputy chairman, while Alhaji Gamboa Gade was appointed secretary. This committee will oversee logistics for lodging delegates and party members during the convention.
The Accreditation Committee will be chaired by Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State. Ashamu Abantekewei has been named deputy chairman, with Umar Bature serving as secretary. Their role will be to ensure proper identification and clearance of participants, a crucial step for the credibility of the convention.
For Contact and Mobilisation, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State will take the lead. He will be assisted by Senator Abba Moro as deputy chairman and Emmanuel Ekpe as secretary. This committee is tasked with driving attendance and participation from all corners of the country.
The Constitutional Amendment Committee will be chaired by former Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel, with Barrister Mark Jacob as deputy and Senior Advocate of Nigeria Adeyemi Ajibade serving as secretary. Their mandate includes reviewing party rules and recommending amendments where necessary.
Other key committees include the Electoral Committee, chaired by Governor Fintiri himself, with Governor Adeleke as deputy and Dr. Okereke Ipeazu as secretary. This panel is perhaps the most sensitive, as it will directly oversee the voting process.
In Entertainment and Welfare, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been appointed chairperson, with Hajiya Hassana Dikro as deputy and Mrs. Amina Darasimi as secretary. The Medical Sub-Committee will be led by former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, supported by Jumoke Akinjide and Dr. Josephine Ugeh.
Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State heads the Protocol Committee, while the Publicity Sub-Committee is chaired byBauchi Governor Bala Mohammed. Security arrangements will be handled by Taraba State Governor Kefas Agbu, with Senator Austin Akobundu (Rtd) as deputy and Alhaji Yerima Hussaini as secretary.
Other notable assignments include Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who chairs the Transportation Committee, and Adebayo Lawal, Director-General of Oyo State, who leads the Venue Sub-Committee.
The unveiling of these committees is being viewed as a strategic step towards ensuring that the Ibadan convention is successful. By assigning key roles to prominent figures within the party, the PDP appears determined to project unity, efficiency, and preparedness as it elects new national officers and sets its agenda for the future.
