Thousands of mourners gathered on Sunday in Kano for the third-day prayer of Alhaji Idris Adamu Dankabo, the late Sarkin Gabas and District Head of Kabo. The prayer session took place at the residence of his late father, Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, and was led by Islamic scholars including Malam Umar Ali.
The late traditional ruler, aged 48, died in a fatal car crash on Thursday night in Kano. His funeral prayer was held the following day at the Emir’s Palace, led by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, with thousands in attendance.
Dignitaries who visited the family to offer condolences included Governor Abba Yusuf, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, ex-Minister of Justice Mohammed Bello Adoke, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, and presidential aide Abdul’Aziz Abdul’Aziz.
Alhaji Idris was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, founder of the now-defunct Kabo Air and a pioneer in Nigeria’s private aviation sector. The Dankabo family remains influential in Kano’s business and political landscape.
His death leaves a significant gap in the Kano Emirate Council, where the Sarkin Gabas title holds both cultural and administrative importance.
