The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the ruling party is fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, insisting that no opposition force can stop its victory at the presidential, governorship, and legislative levels.
Yilwatda made the statement while speaking on Jay FM 101.3 in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
According to him, opposition parties have continued to brand President Bola Tinubu’s administration a failure, citing widespread hunger, poverty, unemployment, and insecurity. However, the Presidency and the APC have repeatedly dismissed such claims as baseless, insisting that the government is performing excellently.
The APC chairman maintained that the party’s dominance remains unshaken, stressing that opposition groups, including the coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are weak and limited to fragmented local bases. He added that their operations are plagued by “parochialism” and lack of national spread.
Citing APC’s recent wins in by-elections across 12 states, Yilwatda expressed confidence that the same outcome awaits the opposition in 2027. He also refuted claims that the APC is pushing Nigeria towards a one-party state or fueling crises within opposition parties, insisting that their internal challenges are “self-inflicted.”
Describing the opposition coalition as a “marriage of convenience” destined to collapse, Yilwatda argued that it lacks both visionary leadership and commitment.
Highlighting the achievements of President Tinubu’s policies, the APC helmsman said unlike previous administrations where governors resorted to borrowing to pay salaries, states are now generating significant revenue, sustaining salary payments, and executing projects effectively. He noted that this has prompted some opposition governors to defect to the APC.
