Airtel Nigeria has unveiled its latest broadband solution, the SmartConnect 5G Outdoor Unit (ODU) Router, designed to offer high-speed internet that is both affordable and dependable for homes and businesses nationwide.

Built for outdoor setup, the router enhances signal strength and stability, minimizing disruptions in connectivity, especially in crowded urban and peri-urban regions.

According to Airtel, the device can handle up to 64 devices at once, seamlessly toggles between 5G and 4G LTE where 5G coverage is limited, and comes equipped with parental controls and usage management features.

“Our mission has always been to democratise access to technology,” Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, noted. “With SmartConnect, we are removing the barriers of cost and complexity. Every household and every small business deserves to be connected without compromise.”

Announced on Friday, the SmartConnect 5G Outdoor Unit is priced at N25,000 and includes a SIM card, free installation, and a complimentary 30-day unlimited data bundle with speeds reaching 50 megabits per second. Following the initial period, users can select from flexible plans, including N25,000 per month for unlimited 50 Mbps or N45,000 per month for unlimited 100 Mbps.

A notable feature is its built-in power backup, which provides five to six hours of internet access during electricity outages—a frequent challenge in Nigerian homes and businesses.

“SmartConnect was designed with the Nigerian reality in mind. Families, entrepreneurs, and students need reliability and confidence that their router will keep them online even in the face of power cuts or network fluctuations. This product delivers exactly that,” Marketing Director of Airtel Nigeria, Ismail Adeshina, added.
