Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described Nigeria’s political landscape as one plagued by betrayals and dishonesty. He made this statement in Benin City, Edo State, during the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff and one-time Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe.
The event drew notable figures including former governors Lucky Igbinedion, Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole, and Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State.
Reflecting on his political journey, Jonathan praised Oghiadomhe as a loyal and trustworthy ally.
“I became President, and even after leaving office, Mike has remained one of the few friends who would stick out their necks for me. Nigerian politics, unfortunately, is filled with betrayals. It’s rare to find someone who says the same thing in the morning and in the evening. I experienced this especially during the 2015 election. Mike is someone who would take a bullet for me,” Jonathan said.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, representing Governor Monday Okpebholo, said the administrative foundation laid by Oghiadomhe during his tenure as Deputy Governor is still relevant today.
Lucky Igbinedion also commended Oghiadomhe, stating he had full confidence in him when he handed over state responsibilities during foreign trips.
Adams Oshiomhole added that Oghiadomhe’s loyalty was unwavering, often saying, “Wherever Jonathan is, that’s where I’ll be.” He also praised Oghiadomhe’s wife, Louisa, for being a steadfast partner.
