Major General Abubakar Wase has officially assumed office as the 44th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, Operation *Fansan Yamma*.

The formal handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the 1 Division Headquarters in Kaduna.

In a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Major General Wase takes over from Major General Mayirenso Saraso, as part of the latest round of postings and appointments approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.

Describing the event as a significant occasion, the Army spokesperson said the ceremony included the signing of handover documents, the presentation of the Division insignia to the incoming GOC, and a farewell address delivered by the outgoing commander to the troops.

Photos from the ceremony, shared via the Nigerian Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, captured highlights of the transition and interactions with military personnel.
