The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) emerged victorious in the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election held in Kano State.
According to the Returning Officer, Professor Hassan Shitu, NNPP candidate Dr. Ali Kiyawa secured 16,198 votes, defeating Ahmad Kadamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 5,347 votes. The result was officially announced at 12:36 a.m. on Sunday.
Tensions rose earlier when NNPP leaders staged a sit-in at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Kano. They accused INEC of attempting to tamper with results from the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency. Spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Tofa, stated they would not leave until the results were released.
