Ahead of Saturday’s bye-election in Kano State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Abdul Zango, has called on security agencies to maintain neutrality and avoid political bias throughout the electoral process.
Speaking during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting held at the Kano Police Command headquarters, Zango urged all members to ensure a peaceful, free, and credible election in the state.
According to a statement issued by Kano Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, Zango praised the previous efforts of security operatives in past elections and expressed confidence in their continued professionalism.
Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Bakori, also gave assurances of the police’s readiness to protect lives and property during and after the election. He encouraged residents to vote peacefully and report any suspicious activity.
The meeting focused on finalising security plans for the Ghari/Tsanyawa re-run election and the Bagwai/Shanono bye-election, including statewide clearance operations to prevent disruptions.
Representatives from multiple agencies attended the session, including INEC, the Police, Army, Air Force, DSS, Civil Defence, Immigration, Customs, FRSC, EFCC, NDLEA, Fire Service, Defence Intelligence Agency, and NYSC.
Haruna noted that the session aimed to review past strategies, assess their outcomes, and enhance preparations for upcoming elections to ensure a smooth electoral process.
