Stop Early Criticism of Tinubu’s Govt — Foursquare Warns

The General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, has cautioned political actors against turning social gatherings into campaign platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that it is too early to begin assessing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and urged leaders to focus on the nation’s pressing issues.

Speaking during a press conference to announce activities marking the church’s 70th anniversary, Rev. Aboyeji described premature political campaigns as a distraction for the government, stressing the need for unwavering attention on tackling Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

“We should allow the government to work and not be distracted by early politicking,” he said. “The challenges Nigerians are facing require total focus and urgent solutions, not premature campaigns.”

The press briefing was held at the church’s national headquarters in Yaba, Lagos, and was attended by church leaders and members of the Platinum Jubilee Planning Committee. This year’s anniversary celebration, themed “70 Years of a Complete Gospel,” is scheduled to run from July 21 to 27, 2025.

Rev. Aboyeji highlighted the significance of the milestone, noting that it marks seven decades of spiritual growth, community impact, and humanitarian service by the church. “Our focus goes beyond spiritual revival,” he added. “We’re celebrating this anniversary through impactful outreach including medical missions, inspiring musical events, youth-focused programmes, and meaningful community engagement.”

With more than 5,000 branches nationwide, the General Overseer reaffirmed the church’s commitment to social transformation through faith in action, and its resolve to keep expanding its reach and relevance.

The anniversary will also serve as a homecoming for past members and an opportunity to honour individuals who have contributed significantly to the church’s development both in Nigeria and abroad.

Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Elder Kehinde Lawanson, unveiled a rich line-up of activities for the weeklong celebration. Highlights include a colour parade, inter-school quiz competition, colloquium, praise night, a youth event titled Special Blast (Youth Connect), an awards/gala night, and a grand finale on July 27.

The church leadership said the celebration is not only a tribute to its legacy but also a call to inspire future generations to remain rooted in faith, purpose, and service.
