President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina at about 1:48 p.m. on Tuesday to attend the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The President was received by Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda; former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; state governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, and other top government officials.
Also present were former ministers, ex-governors, current and former senators, Chairman of Dangote Group Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, members of the APC National Working Committee, and security personnel.
Earlier, the remains of the late President departed London aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft en route to Daura, Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest. President Tinubu is expected to receive the body upon arrival in Katsina before it is moved to Daura for burial.
At a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed the body would arrive Nigeria by noon on Tuesday. He announced that a brief military ceremony will be held at the airport, followed by funeral prayers (Jana’iza) and interment at the late President’s residence in Daura.
As part of national mourning, President Tinubu has ordered condolence registers to be opened in all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Nigerian embassies and missions abroad. Another register will be placed at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Idris also noted that condolence messages have been pouring in from world leaders, reflecting Buhari’s global stature and legacy.
To ensure a dignified and well-organized burial, an Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume has been established. The committee is working closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.
Additionally, 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to attend the burial rites in Katsina and remain in Daura for the Third-Day prayers scheduled for Wednesday.
