The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Nigeria from London on Tuesday and were received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft conveying the late president touched down around midday. President Tinubu was on hand to receive the body, alongside former First Lady Aisha Buhari and other members of the Buhari family who arrived with the remains from the United Kingdom.
Also in attendance were Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, senior military officials, and top government dignitaries.
From Katsina, the body of the former president was transported to his hometown, Daura, where he will be buried later today in accordance with Islamic rites.
Preparations for the state burial are ongoing in Daura, with thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the late Nigerian leader.
In honour of the former president, President Tinubu had earlier declared a national holiday and directed that flags be flown at half-mast across the country for seven days.
