Vice President Kashim Shettima paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, and her family in London on Monday.

The visit followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive, after the former president passed away in London on Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Shettima arrived in London earlier that morning, accompanied by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. They were received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

President Tinubu ordered that Shettima and Gbajabiamila accompany the late president’s remains back to Nigeria. In honour of the former leader, Tinubu also instructed that all national flags be flown at half-staff.

Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, and earlier as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.

His burial is scheduled to take place in Daura on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic rites.
