Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has strongly denied reports claiming he and several top state officials are planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the influence of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Describing the story as “false and misleading,” Oyebanji dismissed the report as a deliberate attempt by political opponents to sow discord within the ruling party and mislead the public.
In a statement released on Monday through his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor reiterated his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying neither he nor any of the individuals mentioned have any plans to leave the party.
“Governor Oyebanji and the public officeholders named in the report remain firmly rooted in the APC,” Oyebode said.
“There is no connection or intention to join the ADC.”
He added that Dr. Fayemi recently attended an APC caucus meeting in Iyin-Ekiti, where party leaders endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji for a second term, a meeting widely covered by the media.
Oyebode emphasized that Oyebanji has remained loyal to the progressive political movementsince 1999 and has never switched parties. He accused some “desperate politicians” of trying to create a rift between Oyebanji and President Tinubu by misrepresenting his association with Fayemi.
“Unfortunately for these political jesters, President Tinubu is too strategic to fall for their antics,” he stated.
The governor’s media aide urged the public to disregard the defection claims, calling them part of a “childish media campaign” driven by those eyeing the 2026 governorship race but lacking a credible agenda or public support.
“Now that INEC has announced the date for party primaries, we expect them to stop hiding behind false reports and face the electorate with their agenda,” Oyebode added.
