The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing energy poverty
through a high-level stakeholder engagement forum focused on implementing the National
Energy Compact under the Mission 300 initiative.
Scheduled for July 8, 2025, the forum will be convened by the Federal Ministry of Power and the Federal Ministry of Finance in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL).
The event marks a significant step toward achieving Nigeria’s energy access goals.
Mission 300 is a continent-wide initiative spearheaded by the World Bank Group and the
African Development Bank, with strong backing from The Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, and SEforALL. Its overarching aim is to connect 300 million people across Africa to reliable electricity by 2030.
Nigeria is one of twelve countries selected for the first phase of the initiative’s rollout. As part of its participation, the country has pledged to undertake major reforms to expand energy access, increase the deployment of renewable energy sources, and attract greater private sector investment into the energy sector.
The government-led forum will bring together policymakers, development partners, and
energy stakeholders to align on strategies for accelerating progress under the Mission 300
banner. With Nigeria’s inclusion in this pioneering initiative, the country is set to play a
leading role in advancing sustainable, inclusive electrification across the continent.
To advance the implementation of Mission 300, the Federal Government has set up a high-
level Compact Delivery and Monitoring Unit to oversee and coordinate the achievement of its energy access targets.
This unit will drive collaborative action and mobilise investments by convening senior
government officials, development partners, and private sector stakeholders through the
Stakeholder Forum. The forum will serve as a platform to assess progress and highlight key
implementation efforts under Nigeria’s National Energy Compact, which was officially
launched at the Dar es Salaam Energy Summit in January 2025.
The National Compact sets out clear and investable targets, including doubling the country’s annual electricity access growth rate from 4 per cent to 9 per cent and boosting access to clean cooking solutions from 22 per cent to 25 per cent annually. These goals are central to Nigeria’s commitment under the first phase of the Mission 300 initiative.
By fostering coordination and engagement across key sectors, the Compact Delivery and
Monitoring Unit aims to accelerate Nigeria’s path toward universal energy access while
creating a more attractive environment for private investment and sustainable development.
