Italian giants Juventus Football Club officially confirmed the acquisition of Canadian striker Jonathan David from Ligue 1 side Lille on Friday.
According to a statement released on their website, the club shared that David was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Haitian parents and grew up in Ottawa, Canada.
The forward kick-started his early football development with youth setups Ottawa Gloucester and Ottawa Internationals before heading to Europe at just 17 years old.
He signed his first professional deal with KAA Gent in Belgium, making an immediate impact by scoring in his debut match in August 2018. Over two seasons, he recorded 37 goals and 15 assists in 83 games, and emerged as the Belgian league’s top scorer for the 2019/2020 season.
David transferred to Lille in the summer of 2020, where he flourished into a central figure in the squad. Over five seasons, he racked up 87 goals in 178 Ligue 1 matches and amassed 109 goals and 30 assists in 232 total appearances in all competitions.
His stint in France was decorated with silverware, including the Ligue 1 championship in 2020/2021 and a French Super Cup title in 2021.
Representing Canada internationally, David made his senior debut in September 2018, where he scored twice. Since then, he’s become a mainstay in the national team, earning 66 caps and netting 35 goals, in addition to playing for Canadian youth teams earlier in his career.
Juventus introduced the 24-year-old forward through an official welcome, stating, “Jonathan David is a talented striker who adds quality to our squad. We warmly welcome him and wish him all the best—see you on the pitch, Jonathan.”
