Malam Garba Shehu, former spokesperson to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has announced the upcoming release of his new book titled “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience.”
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Shehu said the book aims to serve as a resource for communication students, media professionals, and researchers. It draws on his years of experience as a presidential spokesman and offers insights into the workings of the Buhari administration.
“This is not a personal memoir,” Shehu clarified. “It’s a practical guide meant to inspire aspiring journalists and PR professionals. It also provides an authoritative account of President Buhari’s two-term tenure.”
According to Shehu, the 260-page book highlights significant policies and reforms implemented during Buhari’s eight-year leadership, including anti-corruption initiatives such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Tax Identification Number (TIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), Whistleblower Policy, and National Identification Number (NIN) schemes.
He added that the book complements earlier works by former aides like Femi Adesina and offers fresh perspectives through personal anecdotes and media interactions from his time in office.
“This book brings readers closer to President Buhari, not just as a leader, but as a person but his habits, his preferences, even his attire on key occasions,” Shehu said.
While acknowledging that a 260-page volume cannot cover every aspect of Buhari’s presidency, Shehu said it captures the essence of a government that aimed to build a self-reliant and transparent Nigeria.
