Tensions Rise as Rival PDP Factions Hold Parallel Meetings in Abuja

Tensions escalated on Monday at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza in Abuja, as heavy security was deployed ahead of parallel meetings planned by rival factions within the party.

A combined team of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel took control of the area, setting up barricades and restricting access to the secretariat. Armed officers patrolled the premises, anticipating possible clashes between supporters of the feuding groups.

The crisis stems from a dispute over the legitimacy of recent actions taken by the PDP’s Acting National Chairman. The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) has condemned those decisions, calling them unconstitutional and unilateral.

The rival factions are reportedly organizing separate gatherings, a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and an expanded national caucus session, deepening the ongoing leadership turmoil within the party.
