Members of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja have commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the club’s Board of Trustees, chaired by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, for their instrumental role in facilitating the reopening of the facility.
The club, which had been shut down temporarily to undergo critical upgrades, is now set to benefit from renovations aimed at aligning its amenities with global benchmarks.
Following sustained efforts by the BOT leadership and members, the Minister paid a visit to the premises on Saturday to personally inspect the site and evaluate the progress made.
During his tour of the club, Wike pledged immediate action to restore the clubhouse, beginning with urgent repairs that will prioritize the areas where members typically gather to unwind and interact.
He further gave assurances that the remaining sections of the club would undergo renovations in structured phases, with the goal of elevating the overall standard of the facility.
Reacting to the minister’s inspection, several members of the IBB Golf Club voiced their excitement, highlighting that the proposed upgrades would not only enhance the club’s appeal but also foster a stronger sense of community among the club’s more than 5,000 active members.
One of the members, Iyabo Adebola, expressed appreciation to both Wike and the BOT, saying, “the renovation of the IBB Golf Club was necessary and long overdue as the club was a vital recreational and social hub in Abuja.”
Other members, including Nuhu Ahmad and Matta Ushani, also extended heartfelt thanks to the Minister and the trustees, praising their commitment to reviving the club. They noted that the improvements would transform the club into a world-class recreational and tourism hotspot in Nigeria.
