President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed emerging political coalitions aimed at challenging his re-election bid in 2027, describing their members as “Political Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).”

Speaking during a one-day working visit to Nasarawa State, the President advised his supporters to ignore such alliances, insisting they would not succeed.

“Those who are building coalitions are political IDPs. Don’t pay attention to them, they will eliminate themselves, not me,” Tinubu said at a stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Lafia.

The President used the platform to commend Governor Abdullahi Sule for his administration’s strides in infrastructure, especially the successful execution of legacy projects which he commissioned during his visit.

“Sule is doing a great job. We will support him in any way possible,” Tinubu said, highlighting the governor’s efforts in agriculture and infrastructure as aligning with his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Tinubu also urged the Nasarawa governor not to focus solely on the state’s solid mineral potential, but to continue investing in agriculture — an area he believes holds transformative potential for youth and women empowerment through targeted financing and loan schemes.

“We are going to make agriculture attractive and profitable,” he said, citing the state’s rice farming initiatives as an example of progress.

Governor Sule, in response, expressed gratitude for the President’s visit and support. He credited much of his administration’s achievements to the fiscal space created by the removal of fuel subsidies and increased federal allocations.

He also made a passionate appeal for the resumption of oil exploration in Nasarawa State, noting that the activities, which commenced in 2023, had since stalled. He emphasized that the development of the state’s oil and gas reserves could lead to the establishment of modular refineries and enhance economic prosperity.

President Tinubu commissioned several key projects in the state, including the over ₦16 billion Lafia flyover and underpass, which aim to ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity in the state capital.
