Nigerian music star Ayra Starr is stepping into a bold new chapter as she makes her acting debut in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, Children of Blood and Bone.
In a recent interview with CBS Mornings, the Mavin Records sensation shared her thoughts on the transition from music to film, describing the experience as exciting but completely unfamiliar.
“This is my first movie ever,” Ayra said. “I’m used to being a singer, being a diva on set—but with this, in a movie, it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time.”
Ayra Starr joins an all-star cast that includes Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, and more. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted that being in front of the camera without singing made her feel a bit shy at first.
“I had to get used to military time, being punctual, and working really hard. I respect actors so much more now their stamina is impeccable.”
Although music remains her first love, Ayra revealed that acting has always been a dream of hers.
“I’ve always loved the arts in general,” she said. “I love music, but I’ve always wanted to act. I was just shy about it. This is the first time in my life I’m in front of the camera and not singing I’m acting.”
She also spoke about how inspiring it was to work alongside industry legends and rising stars alike.
“Working with the greats was amazing. I learned so much not just from the big names, but from everyone on set. Even the 14 and 16-year-olds were inspiring. Just watching them taught me so much.”
As she explores new creative territory, fans are eager to see Ayra Starr shine on screen just as she has on stage.
