World record holder Tobi Amusan will be back on the track today (Tuesday) as she competes in the women’s 100m hurdles at the prestigious 64th Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czechia, According to Sports Extra.
After an impressive showing at the Paris leg of the Diamond League last Friday—where she ran a season-best 12.24 seconds to claim second place—Amusan has been officially confirmed to participate in the star-studded event.
The 28-year-old Nigerian hurdler is set to go head-to-head with strong competition including Alaysha Johnson from the USA, Italy’s Elena Carraro, Ireland’s Sarah Lavin, Hungary’s Anna Toth, and Viktoria Forster of Slovakia.
Though Amusan is widely seen as the front-runner among her peers, she’s expected to use the race as another opportunity to sharpen her form ahead of bigger meets. Her 12.24s time in Paris stands as the second-fastest of her career, trailing only her 2022 world record of 12.12s set in Eugene, Oregon.
Elsewhere on the programme, reigning Olympic and triple world champion in the men’s 110m hurdles, Grant Holloway, will take on fellow American Dylan Beard—winner at the Turku and Zagreb Continental Tour Gold meets. Brazil’s Matheus Lima will also headline the men’s 400m hurdles field.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Dutch sensation Femke Bol, who’s had an explosive season so far, will open her 400m flat season. She will line up against Olympic and world medallists Natalia Bukowiecka and Salwa Eid Naser.
Over in the women’s 100m, Ivorian veteran sprinter Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith will clash with Cambrea Sturgis, New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs, and Britain’s Amy Hunt in a highly anticipated sprint duel.
India’s javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, is also set to feature. This appearance will be his fifth event of the season, as he prepares to defend his global crown at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
Australian teenage phenom Gout Gout, who stunned the athletics world by clocking 20.04 seconds in the 200m last December to set a new Oceanian record, will compete against Cuba’s Reynier Mena, winner of the Oslo and Stockholm Diamond League sprints.
Meanwhile, the men’s 400m will feature runners Jonas Phijffers and Christopher Morales-Williams. In the 800m, Australian record-holder Peter Bol will race against Samuel Chapple. South African standout Prudence Sekgodiso, a world indoor champion, will headline the women’s 800m event.
