The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, has denied claims circulating online that he has been suspended from office. Addressing party members at the SDP headquarters in Abuja on Monday, Gabam described the reports as false and an attempt to destabilize the party and smear his leadership.
Gabam said the allegations lacked merit, adding that the party remained united, focused, and determined to provide a credible alternative to Nigerians. He stated that the presence of National Working Committee (NWC) members and state chairmen at the meeting further demonstrated internal cohesion within the SDP.
The party leader said that neither he nor the NWC had received any valid notice of suspension, stressing that the so-called reports were politically motivated and intended to sow discord.
He also addressed separate allegations of financial misconduct, describing them as baseless. Gabam said that the SDP leadership remained committed to transparency and accountability, and that no individual found guilty of wrongdoing would be protected by the party.
In addition, Gabam condemned a recent incident involving armed thugs who reportedly stormed the party’s secretariat. He said the development was both unfortunate and dangerous, and urged security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Members of the NWC and state chapter chairmen present at the gathering expressed their continued support for Gabam’s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s objectives. They stated that the SDP remains focused on delivering issue-based governance and offering Nigerians a viable political option.
Gabam concluded by urging supporters and the public to ignore false news reports, and called on party members to remain committed to the SDP’s vision for a better Nigeria.
This report is based on statements made by Alhaji Shehu Gabam and members of the SDP National Working Committee during a media engagement in Abuja.
