Gaise Baba’s “No Turning Back II” featuring Lawrence Oyor has emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2025, making history on the TurnTable Chart. The powerful gospel anthem recently peaked at No. 4 on the TurnTable Top 100 Nigeria’s definitive music chart that aggregates data from streaming platforms, television, and radio. This marks the highest position ever achieved by a gospel song in the chart’s five-year history.
Blending uplifting lyrics with an infectious, dance-ready beat, “No Turning Back II” has captivated audiences nationwide, particularly on TikTok where it quickly went viral. The track reimagines the timeless hymn “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus,” infusing it with a contemporary sound that resonates with today’s listeners.
It is the second gospel song to break into the mainstream this year, following the success of Lawrence Oyor’s “Favour,”which dominated charts in the first quarter of 2025. This wave signals a remarkable resurgence for gospel music in Nigeria, which had seen a dip in visibility with the rise of pop-driven streaming culture.
However, the tide is turning. TikTok has emerged as a key driver in the rediscovery and popularity of gospel music, especially among Gen Z. Data from Spotify shows a 1,228% increase in gospel music streams by Nigerian Gen Z listeners between 2022 and 2024. Likewise, Christian podcast streams rose by 482% in the same period.
In a landmark achievement, Sumisola Agbebi became the first gospel artist to surpass 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify earlier this year. Meanwhile, prominent gospel acts like Moses Bliss and Mercy Chinwo ranked among the most-streamed Nigerian artists on YouTube in the first quarter of 2025.
Gospel music is not just making a comeback it’s taking center stage.
