The University of Port Harcourt has promoted 30 senior academics to the rank of professor and 16 others to associate professor. The announcement was made by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, in a statement released on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
Prof. Georgewill explained that the promotions followed a thorough assessment process conducted by the university. The promotions were approved during the 187th meeting of the Governing Council, which was chaired by the Pro-Chancellor, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa.
The promotion details show that 30 individuals were elevated to the rank of professor, while 16 others were promoted to associate professor. A breakdown of the promotions indicates that the Faculty of Science had seven new professors, the Faculty of Social Sciences had five, and the Faculty of Management Sciences also had five.
Other faculties with new professors include the Faculty of College of Health Sciences (five), Faculty of Humanities (four), Faculty of Engineering (three), and the Faculty of Pharmaceuticals (one).
In the Associate Professor (Readers’) category, the Faculty of Engineering produced four new readers, followed by the Faculty of Science with three, the Faculty of Education with two, and the Faculty of Humanities with two. Other faculties with new associate professors include the Faculty of Agriculture (one), Faculty of Social Sciences (one), Faculty of Management Sciences (one), Faculty of College of Health Sciences (one), and the Faculty of School of Science Laboratory Technology (one).
